Total incidents

You're looking at a simple statistic: the total number of incidents in Dopeology by type.

The positive test is by far the most common type but it's also been around the longest. Investigations and criminal convictions arrived much later, along with better media coverage.

Incidents per year

The number of incidents per year for the top five types of incident.

Two statements for which you won't necessarily find support here are that anti-doping is getting more effective or that doping is increasing. What you can see is that there has been a rapid increase in incidents reported by the media and that some of the spikes correspond with key historical events such as the introduction of haematocrit rule in 1997 or the Festina Affair the following year.
